Inside Triple RockTriple Rock Brewery & Alehouse is housed in a classic early 20th-century yellow brick building in Downtown Berkeley. Before John and Reid Martin took it over, it was a glass shop and real estate office, so it took quite a bit of work to transform into a brewery, pub and restaurant. It was quite a mess. "I don't think the glass company threw anything out in the 40 years they were there," remarked John. After the repairs and refurbishments were made, the Martin brothers received an award for "Outstanding Restoration and Renovation" from the distinguished Berkeley Architectural Heritage Association.

The antique wood bar is the obvious focal point of the pub. But look around and enjoy the Martins' collection of classic breweriana, proudly displayed on all the walls. Many of the items were brought in by early patrons and traded to the brothers for "beer credits" (offer still open!). Some pieces are considered to be quite valuable. There isn't actually enough wall space to display all the memorabilia John and Reid have acquired, so they rotate pieces from their collection from time to time.

Inside Triple Rock

The Martins also believe a jukebox is the only true way to provide music in a classic American tavern. They like theirs to have a variety of music styles and hand-pick the CDs (with some surprising selections!). TV viewing isn't a everyday focal point at Triple Rock, however with the addition of two High Definition Flat Screen TV’s, when it's time to watch a "big game," the neighborhood arrives at "the Rock" to enjoy it!

Besides the main attraction of great beer, Triple Rock has earned a reputation for delicious "comfort food," including a tasty sandwich menu, the famous nachos and hearty soups. The house specialty is an ever-changing variety of house chili (more than 100 proprietary recipes rotated).

Here's a closer look at the menu.

One of Triple Rock's best kept secrets is the rooftop sun deck, which offers guests the opportunity to relax and enjoy the balmy Berkeley weather with their favorite ales. Also, the pub is 100 percent non-smoking, so beer lovers can savor the true malt and hop aromas of the house brews.
